Kids

Approximately 80% of all kids in Ontario start school without a comprehensive eye exam, yet vision problems play a huge part in limiting a kid’s success in his or her first learning years. From early learning until junior high, visual learning is key to retaining information. A problem with your child’s vision can be a direct correlation to slipping grades.

Up to 25% of children may start school without getting a thorough diagnosis of their vision problem. The number of children who actually complain of an issue is low and they may not even realize what clear vision is really like. Therefore, an annual kids eye exam makes sense. But how can you know that your child has vision problems without telling you?

Signs your child may be experiencing vision problems:

  • Slipping grades
  • Holding books too close or sitting close to the TV
  • Frequent headaches
  • Perpetual squinting
  • Shortened attention span  during learning activities
  • Frequently losing their place when reading or copying from the board
  • Becomes nervous or irritable when asked to read

Even if your child is not experiencing any of these symptoms, comprehensive eye exams are important for overall health and to ensure your child’s vision is developing normally. We recommend that every child two years of age and older have a yearly eye exam in order to detect these symptoms sooner than later. Schedule an appointment with us today to get your child the essential eye care necessary to remove obstacles that may be hindering their academic success.
